FLOYD HILL, Colo. (KDVR) — The Colorado Department of Transportation is warning drivers that with the time change, there could be closures along eastbound Interstate 70 due to sun glare. The morning sun, in addition to the angle of Floyd Hill, can create a blinding glare for eastbound drivers. Each morning, the Colorado State Patrol and CDOT will collaborate in evaluating the roadway to determine if a closure is necessary. This means that morning road closures can occur for up to an hour between exits 244 and 248, just east of Idaho Springs, because of intense sun glare. CDOT notes that the sun glare can also be an issue as far east as Genesee. Why isn’t Colorado on permanent daylight saving time? The early morning commute from sunrise to around 8:30 a.m. will likely be rerouted to U.S. 6 at exit 244 near Floyd Hill. From there, drivers can choose to continue on the road through Clear Creek Canyon or turn onto U.S. 40 and return to the interstate at exit 248. On Monday, CDOT had ...How long does ski gear last?

DENVER (KDVR) — With ski areas opening and fresh powder piling up, ski season is just getting started. Before you hit the slopes, check your gear. It might be time for new equipment if you see these signs. Ski gear has different lifecycles depending on how often and in what conditions you ski in. Chet Champion is an assistant manager at SNÖBAHN, an indoor ski and snowboard center, and he said that gear usually lasts about five years. 2023 Colorado ski areas opening dates Champion said three factors change the lifespan of the equipment: Frequency, ski conditions and storage. "Gear that sees the mountain maybe 10 days a year, is used by someone who likes to ride in calm and easy conditions and is well taken care of in between those uses and, in the summer, can definitely last longer than five years," said Champion. "All these factors play a role and even gear that is well maintained in between every session may not make it quite that long for the avid rider who is getting 30, 50, o...You’ll have to wait until 2025 for more ‘Euphoria’

A Russian telecoms cable in the Gulf of Finland was damaged last month in yet another undersea Baltic infrastructure mystery. Russian state-owned telecommunications operator Rostelecom first notified Finland about the failure of one of its cables — the Baltika telecommunications cable — on October 12, according to Finland’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The Baltika telecommunications cable, a 1,000-kilometer cable that connects St. Petersburg to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, runs through parts of Sweden and Finland’s economic zones. After negotiations with Helsinki, the Russian repair vessel Spatsel Karev arrived on site Monday to start repair work.Damage to the Russian cable comes as Baltic countries grapple with multiple cases of damage to their critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea.Last month, the Balticconnector gas pipeline — linking NATO members Finland and Estonia — was ruptured, along with two underwater telecommunications cables, ...Trump arrives in court to testify in New York civil case alleging financial fraud

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump arrived Monday morning at a Manhattan courthouse in anticipation of hours of testimony in his civil fraud trial, a spectacle of a former president and the leading Republican presidential candidate defending himself against allegations that he dramatically inflated his net worth. The charges cut to the very heart of the brand Trump spent decades carefully crafting and put him at risk of losing control of much of his business empire. But the appearance may also mark the beginning of what will likely be a defining feature of the 2024 election if Trump becomes his party’s nominee: a major candidate, on trial, using the witness stand as a campaign platform as he eyes a return to the White House while facing multiple criminal indictments.“It’s going to be a stunning moment. This is dramatic enough if he was simply an ex-president facing these charges. But the fact that he is the overwhelming favorite to run the GOP, it makes this a stag...Biden to announce $16 billion for Amtrak rail improvements in Northeast Corridor

Decades before Edel Rodriguez made his iconic, mouth-only political illustration of Donald Trump for the cover of Time magazine, he was a boy growing up in Fidel Castro’s Cuba.In his new graphic memoir, “Worm: A Cuban American Odyssey,” Rodriguez mixes historical context and personal stories to recount his harrowing journey growing up under — then escaping — Communism and authoritarianism in Cuba, as well as the warning signs he recognizes in America today. Before diving into his life, Rodriguez paints a picture of the Cuba he was born into, starting with a short history of the Cuban Revolution that culminated in the January 1959 insurrection and Castro seizing power. Then, Rodriguez zooms in to focus on the small town of El Gabriel, 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Havana, where his family has lived for generations. Here we see the echoes of Cuban politics in Edel’s daily life as his grandfather saves every scrap and his grandmother warns that the walls have ears. The style is...Michigan mayoral races could affect Democrats’ control of state government

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Democrats in Michigan who hold power in the governor’s office and slim majorities in both chambers of the Legislature may be at risk of temporarily losing full control, depending on the results of two mayoral elections Tuesday. Democrats currently hold a two-seat majority in the state House, and two of those representatives, Lori Stone and Kevin Coleman, are running for mayor in their own districts in suburban Detroit.Coleman is running to become Westland’s mayor, while Stone is vying for the position in Warren. They both advanced to the Nov. 7 general election after the August primaries. If either wins Tuesday, they will be sworn into office after the election is certified, likely later this month. The loss of two Democratic state representatives would put the state House in a 54-54 deadlock until special elections could be held for the seats. Democrats would still control the agenda, but they would no longer hold a voting advantage that has allowe...Mississauga man facing 18 charges after police seize guns, drugs during intimate partner violence investigation

PARIS (AP) — Senators in France were set Monday to start debating a bill that is intended to toughen the country’s immigration law but advocacy organizations have criticized as a threat to the rights of asylum-seekers and other migrants.French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said the legislation “is about being firm” on immigration.
