AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Hotter than normal July weather refuses to loosen its grip on Central Texas this week with temperatures soaring over 100 degrees every day.Camp Mabry had a low this morning of 79°, tying a record warm morning low for the date. There may be a few more record warm lows tied or set during the next seven mornings.Austin is up to three days this month of a triple-digit high. Add seven more to reach ten by the time this current 7-Day Forecast ends. This new heatwave means seven more days of 100sThe 1 p.m. heat index reached 108° at Flatonia and La Grange and 105° at both Camp Mabry and Lockhart. These numbers will increase some so that our higher indices will peak within the 106° to 112°. Many heat index readings today will be greater than 105°This is Heat Advisory criteria. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed his deputy chief of staff as the interim Attorney General of Texas. In a press release Monday, Abbott said Angela Colmenero will take over as interim Attorney General effective at 10 a.m., July 14. John Scott, the former Secretary of State appointed interim AG by Abbott in May, is leaving."John Scott faithfully executed his duties as the interim Attorney General of Texas, and I thank him for his leadership in stepping up to serve his fellow Texans in this role," Abbott said. "Angela's record of experience in state government and expertise in litigation will help her oversee the Texas Attorney General's Office and serve as our state’s top law enforcement officer as the Texas Senate conducts impeachment proceedings."Colmenero had been Abbott's deputy chief of staff since June and previously served as his principal deputy general counsel since November 2021. Former Gophers basketball great Trevor Mbakwe is the new activities director at Tartan High School, the Oakdale school recently announced.Mbakwe, a St. Paul product, played for the U from 2010-13, and was twice named All-Big Ten by the coaches and media. After college, he went on to play professional basketball overseas from 2013-19 before returning home to pursue a career in athletic administration.The 34-year-old previously served as an assistant activities director at Irondale during the 2020-21 school year before spending the past two years working as an associate activities director at Eden Prairie. WILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office arrested Riley A. Macleod, 19, of Wilton, following a domestic dispute on June 8. Police say they received a 911 call from a woman reporting that she had attacked a family member with a knife at their home. Macleod was arraigned in the Milton Town Court for second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Police are searching for a vulnerable adult who is missing out of Albany. OKelly Yhap, 29, was last seen around 5 a.m. on July 9. GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Monday night's Glens Falls City Band concert is moving indoors due to weather. The band's free concert for July 10 is moving to the Queensbury Hotel.The free show runs from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Queensbury Hotel, just across from its typical outdoor home of City Park. The show is one of several free concerts held by the Glens Falls City Band each summer. Upcoming dates include July 17 and 24. When the weather cooperates, shows are held at City Park Gazebo, near Crandall Public Library. Visitors should bring a blanket or lawn chair. SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Saugerties woman has been arrested following a trespassing incident, according to police. Meggin Cox, 59, is facing multiple charges. On July 6 at 4:52 p.m., police responded to a residence on Pine Grove School Road in Saugerties for the report of a trespass. Upon arrival, officers found that Cox had illegally entered the apartment of a former acquaintance and was refusing to leave. Police took Cox into custody and transported her to Saugerties Police Department HQ for processing on the charge of second-degree criminal trespass. While being processed, police say Cox struck an officer in the face, resulting in an additional charge of second-degree harassment. MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police reports that one individual has passed away following the accident on I-87 southbound in Malta. A preliminary investigation determined that a woman had exited her vehicle, which was parked on the shoulder of the roadway, and intentionally entered the southbound lane of traffic. The individual was transported to the Saratoga Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The accident shut down I-87 southbound for approximately three hours. Investigations are ongoing. COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri's Republican Gov. Mike Parson approved extended Medicaid health care for new mothers and a ban on handheld phone use while driving when he took final action on remaining bills last week.Parson already signed a close to $52 billion state budget that includes billions in funding to expand Interstate 70 across the state. He also approved limits on access to transgender health care and a ban on transgender girls and women competing with other female athletes in school sports.Parson signed most of the remaining bills passed by the GOP-led Legislature this year, with the exception of a measure to pay wrongfully convicted prisoners for their time behind bars.Most of the new laws will take effect Aug. 28.
