House lawmakers to consider banning gender transition care for minors AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- The Texas House Committee on Public Health on Monday will consider a bill that would ban minors from receiving medical treatment to change their gender.HB 1686 by State Rep. Tom Oliverson (R-Cypress) would prohibit physicians from providing gender transition surgery or "puberty blockers" to Texans under 18. It would also exempt that care from coverage under state health insurance plans."This whole cottage industry operates without self regulation to the detriment of vulnerable children," Rep. Oliverson tweeted Monday.The American Medical Association opposes any such legislation, calling it "a dangerous governmental intrusion into the practice of medicine" that "will be detrimental to the health of transgender children" in a 2021 letter to the National Governors Association.The bill is identical to the Texas Senate's companion legislation, SB 14 by State Sen. (NEWS10) -- On Monday, Malcolm Gadsden, 51, pled guilty to intentionally killing January Butcher on or around December 23, 2021. The homicide took place at 964 State Street, Apartment 1F. Police say the investigation began when Gadsden called 911 on Christmas Eve in 2021, claiming he had just killed his girlfriend, January Butcher. Law enforcement located Butcher deceased at the residence. Gadsden provided a full confession and admitted to stabbing and choking Butcher.Gadsden is scheduled for sentencing in Schenectady County Court on June 20. The guilty plea takes in full satisfaction the two remaining counts in the indictment, charging Gadsden with Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

According to the Warren County Sheriff's Office, the Narcotics Enforcement Unit made controlled buys of cocaine from Rogers on multiple occasions. City of St. Louis suing Hyundai, Kia over surge in car thefts ST. LOUIS - The City of St. Louis filed a federal lawsuit on Monday against car manufacturers Kia America and Hyundai Motor America over a surge in car thefts involving those vehicles.Last August, the city counselor’s office sent letters to Kia and Hyundai, chastising the car manufacturers for failing to install an engine immobilizer in many of their vehicles. Mayor Tishaura Jones and then-Director of Public Safety Dan Isom signed off on the letter, saying the companies had contributed to a public nuisance in the city.The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $75,000, as well as punitive damages and attorneys' fees.Earlier that summer, St. Louis police reported a shocking increase in thefts of Kia and Hyundai cars.
