The 2023 Red Sox: By the numbers

Published Mon, 23 Dec 2024 18:01:04 GMT

The 2023 Red Sox: By the numbers Baseball is a numbers game. It has always been a numbers game.Number of games played, homers hit, runs driven in, strikeouts, walks. Wins and losses. Averages and percentages. Single-season and career statistics. Record highs and personal worsts. That’s not even getting into the advanced metrics of the modern era.One stat alone won’t tell the full story. In 2023, the Red Sox finished 78-84, in last place for the third time in four seasons. But their record belies how great they were at times, on both individual and collective levels. To truly understand this team, why they flourished, faltered, and how they ultimately failed, one must examine the numbers behind the numbers. So, one last time before the calendar page mercifully flips to a new year and clean slate, here are the 2023 Red Sox by the numbers:Record and recordsHere’s an odd bit of trivia: this was the ninth season in which the Red Sox won exactly 78 games, but only the sixth time they also finished with exactly 84 losses. Rising stars to watch in 2024 Fame matters mightily, especially in a world obsessed with social media. In Hollywood, where celebrity is a constantly changing variable, a new year brings hope. And for a lucky few, recognition. The dreamers that dive into an often cruel and irrational business do so hoping that wishes, as the song says, really do come true.  This year we can expect to see these rising stars showcased in vehicles that will solidify their talent and the expectations that have gotten them this far so far. Here then the Rising Stars of 2024:Teyana Taylor is proof that good work gets noticed.  Taylor turned in a blistering, unforgettable performance in A.V. Owen DeSalvo ahead of the game Even at a power football program like BB&N, every now and then, someone as young as an eighth grader can make an impact. The current example of this is strong safety and running back Owen DeSalvo. After the end of the season, DeSalvo represented Massachusetts at the FBU National Championships in Naples, Fla., and was named a finalist for National Eighth Grade Player of the Year. He also earned an invite to the FBU/Adidas Freshman All-American Game. This is all coming off a terrific season with the Knights. He started all nine games on defense, where he was third on the team in tackles, and earned an offer from UMass. It is quite the early resume for the Cohasset native, who is excited to take those next steps as a player.“Before coming to BB&N, I was mainly getting plays at running back and on the offensive side of the ball,” DeSalvo said. “After coming to BB&N this year, I switched to the defensive side of the ball at strong safety. I think over time one o...

The pier has been closed several times in recent years. Over the past five years, the City of San Diego says it has spent $1.7 million to repair the Ocean Beach Pier, which has been closed to the public about 30% of that time due to damage.
