Man sentenced to 7 years for 2020 murder in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced Tuesday in connection to a 2020 murder in west Austin.Darcy McMillian, 37, was sentenced to seven years in prison, according to court documents. He was charged with and pleaded guilty to murder-handgun. On March 26, 2020, Austin first responders found a man lying on the road in West Austin. After life-saving attempts, the man died at the scene. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Zach Ledbetter. AUSTIN, Minn. — The United Food & Commercial Workers Local 663 announced Thursday that a tentative contract agreement has been reached with Hormel Foods Corp.The union local, which represents about 1,700 meatpacking workers in Austin, released a statement about the positive movement toward a new contract. The tentative deal was agreed upon during a Wednesday night negotiation session.“We unanimously recommend this tentative agreement to our fellow union members at Hormel. A suspect was killed following a shooting involving police officers in Canoga Park early Saturday morning, authorities said. According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a radio call of an armed suspect in a pickup truck in the parking lot of a shopping mall at the corner of Sherman Way and Variel Avenue just before 1 a.m.Upon arriving on scene, officers located the suspect and, when he failed to comply with verbal commands, an officer-involved shooting occurred, officials said.The suspect, only described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second suspect who was with the man was questioned and then released, police said.
