SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Voters in more the two dozen Capital Region cities and towns are deciding who will run their municipalities. Mayor races are on the ballot in four local cities.One of them is Schenectady. Ed Varno is running on the Working Families party line. The former city firefighter got into the race after hearing from residents about their number one issue."It's the neighborhoods I believe have been neglected," said Varno. He adds, "we have a downtown and a harbor that's very popular and very well built and I think it's time for the neighborhoods to get some of that love and affection."Varno is running against current mayor democrat Gary McCarthy and republican Matt Nelligan. WAPPINGER'S FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Officials are investigating an explosion in Dutchess County. They said that a struck gas line caused an explosion, a fire, and the partial collapse of a building in Wappinger's Falls. According to Central Hudson, a contractor struck the 3/4-inch gas line during a Thursday afternoon dig, ultimately causing at least a partial collapse at 4 Brick Row in a residential area. ST. LOUIS -- Former Woodson Terrace, Missouri police officer David W. Maas, 57, has pleaded guilty to a charge of deprivation of rights under color of law. This charge pertains to his admission of kicking a man who was on the ground and held at gunpoint by another officer. The incident took place on April 14, 2019, during a pursuit involving a car stolen in an armed robbery. The pursuit spanned several locations, ultimately ending on Oak Grove Avenue in Wellston. AdventHealth Porter, the southwest Denver hospital that shut down Monday after a boiler system failure, won’t be able to reopen until at least Nov. 9.The hospital lost heat and hot water due to the failure, transported patients to other facilities and sent staff to other facilities to support patients as needed, according to a company news release at the time of the closure.A new temporary boiler arrived Wednesday and is being installed, and the existing boilers are being repaired, said Rachel Robinson, regional communications director for AdventHealth, in an emailed statement, but regulatory steps cannot be completed until the new boiler is operational.“As a result, we will not re-open on Monday, Nov. 6 as we had originally hoped,” Robinson said.The new targeted reopening date, Nov. 9, is for emergent and acute inpatient services.Elective surgical procedures won’t resume until Nov. 13.Robinson said the hospital is working with the Colorado Department of Publ...Flights at DIA were temporarily paused Thursday morning after person walked past bridge security

Flights and concourse trains at Denver International Airport were temporarily paused Thursday morning for about 45 minutes after a person walked past a security checkpoint.The person about 10:15 a.m. walked past the security checkpoint on the bridge that leads into Concourse A, Denver International Airport spokesperson Ashley Forest said.Airport personnel made contact with the person within five minutes, Forest said.Airport operations resumed as normal by 11 a.m.The spokesperson said she did not know if the person was in custody or would face any charges.The Denver Police Department did not immediately return a request for that information.This is the second incident in three months in which flights and trains at DIA were paused due to a reported security issue with the A bridge security checkpoint.In September, a passenger passed through the A bridge security checkpoint with a prohibited item. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Walter Davis, a five-time NBA All-Star who had his number retired by the Phoenix Suns, has died. He was 69. Davis was star in college for North Carolina where he played for the late Dean Smith. It was North Carolina, where Davis’ nephew Hubert Davis is the Tar Heels’ basketball coach, which announced Water Davis’ death Thursday. The school’s release said Walter Davis died Thursday morning of natural causes while visiting famil y in Charlotte, North Carolina. Walter Davis was drafted fifth overall by Phoenix in 1977 and became the NBA rookie of the year after averaging 24.2 points a game. He played 11 of his 16 pro seasons with the Suns, who retired his No. 6. Davis moved to Denver for three seasons and Portland for one before returning to the Nuggets in 1992-1993 for his final year. Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and lifeguards helped recover a body that was found in the ocean water. Authorities said the person was in the water but not breathing.Around 11:47 a.m., authorities arrived at the beach near Magu Rock and Pacific Coast Highway, near the Los Angeles and Ventura County lines. The Ventura County Fire Department also assisted with the recovery.The beach and PCH remained open as the body was recovered.The body was identified to be that of a male, whose identity has not been released at this time.Sky5 was overhead as authorities helped recover the body.This is a developing story.
